I regularly, routinely 'lose' my stuff around the home; my phone and its charger, my favourite hair clip, my tweezers, my work ID, my bus pass, the padlock to my gym locker, my sunglasses, my keys, documents, an especially sharp pair of scissors; you name it, I've 'lost' it, only for it to surface after much heartache, usually very safe, in the safer-than-safe little corner I put it last. How annoying is that?!
My misplacing stuff is usually a consequence of my manic handbag-changing, and it drives Dot up the wall and around the bend. I can almost hear my father saying "you never put things back where you took them from; it's no wonder you have trouble finding them!"
Pray tell, dear readership, are you the obsessively religiously organised sort, or do you find yourselves running around, hair flying, not being able to find the things you need when you really need them? Is it just me?

Oh sing it sistah. You are so not alone. I've done the same with my passport, the night before we were supposed to leave from Bombay to make the trip back to Toronto & then Bermuda. I thought I had lost it and then proceeded to panic.
I will place something in a 'safe' spot, only to have later forgotten where, turn the house upside down looking for it all the while cursing under my breath, only to have stumbled upon it later. By now you'd think I'd have designated just one safe spot, so I know where to turn to.
i'm really terribly disorganised too. take heart.
I am just the opposite, I am super organised - a place for everything, the eternal tidy one. This does drive DH crazy 'cause even the magazines have to be placed in a particular way! And all hell will break lose if someone touches my stuff and does not keep them exactly where I had left it. The only fights that I ever have with my family and DH are of these sort....
Oh my god F...what are you doing with an especially sharp pair of scissors in your hand bags anyway?!!!
And oh my god...I am totally bipolar- I just spent the entire morning looking for my security pass to work, and found it in my handbag, and was an hour late because of that.
And that seems to happen to me more often than not. I can't find my laundry card when I need it, I can't find my phone ALL the time (resulting in constant Google Talk messages to people, "Hey! Do you mind giving me a missed call? Can't find my phone!!"), I even left my green card and passport at home when I went on cruise, resulting in some serious tongue lashing by my Dad!!
Sometimes though, I'm super super organized, and everything is in it's place, and I am Queen Efficiency personified. This phenomenon usually occurs after I have cleaned the house from ceiling to floor, and it takes maybe a week before I'm running around ragged again.
@ms cute pants - I'm singing it loud and clear.
@broom - What?! You're not all neat and tidy as I imagined? For shame!
@chinty - I almost hate you for making me look like I have a disorder. Gosh, your poor DH! Send him over to ours for a dose of chaos balance his outlook on life.
@kabes - The scissors are to scare the security at visa offices and airports. The gag has never worked though. I don't think they find it funny.
Unclutter your house is all I can say. I used to be like that, and I still can't say I will find something in the first place I look, but I find that it's unwieldy only when all the surfaces in the house are covered in stuff. If you have 4-5 fixed places where you store things, then you know you are going to find whatever is missing in one of those places for sure.
For everyday items like scissors, putting up hooks helps a lot. When changing purses, try keeping them either all empty or all full - no partial transfers. That way you don't lose things by leaving them out on the coffee table or the sofa.

I hardly ever lose anything cuz I never put anything away. It is located exactly where I would most expect to find it.
wallet -> still in jeans pocket
keys -> as above
phone -> as above
office access card -> as above
I do occasionally lose my jeans though. Those are not happy days.

er, F, so, if you were a securid vpn digital thingymabob, on a keychain, with a usb drive and a little star accessory, where would you be??
@G: Aren't you a sensible girl?! I agree with you though; must get the clutter under control.
@Rainmaker420: I somehow feel I ought to tell your mother you've been losing your trousers, albeit rarely.
@kabes: The Rainmaker's jeans, may be?
Nope. Not in his jeans, nor mine. I did pick his brains for answers though, and his answer, the COUCH, turned out to be spankingly correct.
confession of an elfin goddess: I used to be the messiest, until my parents threatened to disown me. Yea, they meant that seriously. Cut to a few years later, and I am now a neat freak. I do not know what caused this unblvble shift from one extreme to the other. And one more thing: I have no memory of where i have "just" put something. None whatsoever. And Im wondering too about those "safe" places....highly over rated! I can never find the "safe" place. And then again I have selective memory loss. See my problem!
Ha! Welcome to the club!
